How to turn on Wi-Fi Calling on an iPhone

2 min read · 5 steps · Updated 2 October 2026

Short answer

Open Settings, tap Mobile Service, tap your line, then Wi-Fi Calling, and switch on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone. Confirm your address for emergency services if asked. Your network must support it.

Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive normal calls and texts over a Wi-Fi network when the mobile signal is weak, for example in a basement or a thick-walled building. You use your usual number and the Phone app.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings and tap Mobile Service

In some regions this is called Cellular or Mobile Data.

  2. Tap your line, then Wi-Fi Calling

With one SIM, Wi-Fi Calling may appear directly on the page.

  3. Switch on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone

Read the notice and tap Enable.

  4. Enter or confirm your address

Some networks ask for an address to give to emergency services, because a Wi-Fi call cannot be located as precisely as a mobile call.

  5. Look for "Wi-Fi" next to your network name

When the status bar or Control Centre shows your network name followed by Wi-Fi, calls go over Wi-Fi.

Good to know

If the option is missing, your network or tariff does not support Wi-Fi Calling. Prepaid plans are the most likely to lack it.

Calls are charged as normal calls from your home country, including when you are abroad on Wi-Fi. Check your network's terms before relying on this while travelling.

Some hotel and office Wi-Fi networks block Wi-Fi Calling.

In short: Settings, Mobile Service, your line, Wi-Fi Calling, switch on.
